DescriptionClassically composd figure group of Ceres, Prosepine, cupid, Bacchus, and Priapus, the ancient god of fertility. Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, is seated with a cupid looking over her shoulder. She is robed in white and green drapery and holds a veiled lamp on her lap. Her daughter, Prosepine, kneels before her in an attitude of solemn devotion with her hand upon her heart. In the background, Bacchus and Priapus witness the scene, carrying their respective attributes of grapes and a platter of fruit.
