McRAY MAGLEBY

Magleby, McRay "Mac" (1941-), of Salt Lake City, is a 1966 University of Utah graduate in graphic design and a professor of art at the University of Utah since 1983. Before that, he was a production artist for "American West Magazine" (1964-1966); designer/illustrator for Bailey & Montague, Salt Lake City (1966-67); art director, Circuit & Eddington, Salt Lake City, (1967-1969); art faculty member and graphic communications art director, Brigham Young University (1969 into the 1980s). This artist has contributed an abundance of award-winning work to demonstrate the continuing high caliber of much Utah advertising, promotional, and publication art. Witness the following "CASE Tribute Award" statement, presented in December 1995 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco: "McRay Magleby is a remarkable teacher, technician and spokesman. He has shared his graphic design and communications expertise with a worldwide audience. Magleby has been a distinguished professor..., and internationally renowned designer and creative director..., and a speaker, [and] faculty member... Acknowledged by design professionals as 'the singularly most important graphic designer in U.S. higher education.'" He also designed the Springville Museum of Art logo. (b. July 23)
