JOSEPH RODEFER DE CAMP1858 - 1923
American painter of portraits, figure compositions and landscapes. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1858 and studied art there with Duveneck and then at the Royal Art Academy in Munich before traveling with Whistler to Florence and Vienna. Returning to America, he was awarded the temple Gold Medal at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1889 and an Honorable mention from the Paris Salon in 1900, then a Gold medal at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition. He also taught painting at the Pennsylvania Academy in Philadelphia and at the Boston Museum of fine Arts School. He is considered one of the best painters of his period and his works are seen in many collections and art museums in the eastern parts of the United States.
