ESTHER ERIKA PAULSEN1896 - 1978

of Washington State and Logan, pursued early schooling in the uses of the brush at Washington State University (1914) in Pullman. Then, by the early 1930s, she had won recognition for her work in the Northwest but settled in northern Utah where memberships in both the Utah Creative Artists and the Logan Artists Group provided opportunities for participation in the state's artistic community. This occurred alongside the growing local and national recognition of Paulsen's work through the 1930s, '40, and '50s upon the basis of regular exhibitions, awards, and increased acquisitions of her pictures into a number of the area's institutional collections. Her preferred technique was oil on canvas, and she favored regional realist landscape themes in her work.
