SEYMOUR "SY" BARRY

BiographyBorn in St. Louis, writer Lee Falk, best known for his Mandrake the Magician and The Phantom, graduated from the University of Illinois, after which he spent some time as a writer and director of radio shows for a St. Louis advertising agency. In 1934 he moved to New York, intending to write for comic strips. There he created Mandrake in 1934, which was drawn by Phil David from 1934 until his death in 1964. It is now drawn by Fred Fredericks. The Phantom was first drawn by Ray Moore, later by Wilson McCoy, and since 1962 by Seymour Barry. In addition to scripting comic strips, Falk has produced more than three hundred dramas, starring such talents as Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, and Charlton Heston.
