THOMAS HUDSON1701-1779
Thomas Hudson (1701-1779), English portrait painter, born in Devonshire, England. Hudson was the son-in-law and pupil of Jonathon Richardson the Elder (1665-1745), whom he succeeded as the most fashionable artist in England. His popularity waved after the rise of one of his students, Sir Joshua Reynolds. Hudson's works include portraits of Samuel Scott, Morine Painter and Mrs. Collier, Tate Gallery, London; Portrait of George Frederick Haudel, Metropolitan Museum, New York of Art; and several in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin.
