ORTHO R. FAIRBANKSborn 1925

Fairbanks, Ortho Rollin (1925-), is a talented son of Ortho Fairbanks, a son of John B. Fairbanks (q.v.). Born in Salt Lake City, he has become known as yet another Fairbanks sculptor of significant reputation. His work remains on view in the Utah State Capitol Building, where his art can be seen alongside that of his Uncle Avard, who was also his teacher at the University of Utah. Ortho Fairbanks actually earned both a B.F.A. (1952) and an M.F.A. (1953) at the U of U. He taught for quite a number of years (1960-68) at the LDS Church College of Hawaii (now Brigham Young University at Hawaii), has done some carving on very fine works for which Avard Fairbanks is exclusively credited, and lives in Salt Lake City today.
