BiographyNew York artist Philip-Lorca diCorcia began examining contemporary life through conceptual photography in the late 1970s. His work subtly interplays documentary-style observation with critical analysis of the visual image. During the mid-1990s, diCorcia evolved a sophisticated method of street photography that allowed him to capture the uneventful and fleeting activity of the street. While diCorcia's Streetwork series resists easy interpretation, the images do highlight an underlying state of isolation and self-absorption in urban life.
