CHRIS DUNKER

b.1968
BiographyB.F.A California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

M.F.A. Utah State University

At Utah State University, Dunker studied under noted landscape photographer Craig Law absorbing his mentor’s considerable knowledge of photographic materials and craft of the camera. Dunker’s interest in industrial ruins in the landscape paralleled Law’s interest in the how man has changed the landscape over time. Dunker has photographed evidence of mining, railroad, and industry in the West since his adolescence. Industrial architecture and industry itself have also been a consistent interest. Dunker grew up in Ridgecrest, California adjacent to the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station where his father was employed. As an undergraduate student, Dunker followed the work of Survival Research Laboratories (performance art project employing machines, robots, and special effects devices) and dabbled in the industrial music scene. Dunker’s stylistic influences include formal landscape, California modernism, and industrial culture. He is interested in landscape, industry, and the intersection of organic and constructed systems. He owns Dunker Imaging, a photographic services business based in Logan, Utah, and takes on commercial photography assignments while pursuing personal work.
