DescriptionThe image is a portrait of a seated female figure dressed in riding attire consisting of a white button down shirt, red tie, brown jacket, and tan jodhpurs. Though the body faces forward the head is turned to the left edge of the canvas so that the face is in three-quarters profile. The hair is tightly pulled back and the expression on the face is stern. The figure's left arm is straight with the hand placed on the bench on which she sits, the right arm is bent at the elbow and lies across her lap with the hand holding a riding crop.
