    DescriptionThe image is a three-quarter length portrait of a seated aged male figure turned toward the left edge of the support but with the head turned to look out at the viewer; the figure is clothed in formal evening wear with dark suit jacket and trousers, white shirt, waist coat and bowtie and he wears a type of skull cap. The figure holds a violin under his right arm with a bow in his right hand. Written in the upper left recto is "The Music Master, Prof. George Careless in his 89th Year."
