DescriptionLesbia sits on an elaborately painted couch with dark green cushions, looking sadly at the dead sparrow on her lap. Behind Lesbia is a courtyard of trees and plants (upper portions visible) and the blue and red painted entablature is visible. The sky is light blue. On the right side of the painting is a dark brownish red curtain with a black border and gold motif in the Greek key design. Painted by Tadema during his Pompeian period, called such for his usage of Pompeian red, seen here on the back wall and in Lesbia's outer robe.On View
