DescriptionThe image is a monochrome scene of a female figure drawing water with a pail from a wooden well in a rural courtyard. The female figure is wearing a dress and a head scarf and is viewed from her proper left side. She holds the pail in her proper left hand and tips it over a bucket at her feet. Both she and the well are stationed upon a small platform of five wooden planks. The well has a small roof supported on four beams. The rope on the pail connects to a pulley attached to the roof and then descends into the well. The female figure and the well occupy the center foreground of the work, and in the background is an adobe building with a doorway on the left and supporting timbers visible across the roof. In the far right background is a wooden shed or lean-to made of logs. The corner of a wooden building is visible in the far left, along with some shrubbery. Treetops are visible above and behind the buildings. On View
