DescriptionThe image is a landscape of a bridge over a river with many dark lines covering the work at a slight diagonal, signifying rain. The foreground and lower half of the work is dominated by the bridge, which is supported by large wooden beams that extend down into the water. Atop the bridge are six human figures. From left to right, two face the left edge of the painting and carry black oil paper umbrellas, one faces the left edge and wears a hat, two face the right edge and share an umbrella, and one faces the right edge and holds a cloth or a mat over themselves. Beyond the bridge, on the river, is a human figure stands atop a boat, perhaps a sort of punt, and holds a paddle. At the edge of the river, in the background, is the shore with a row of buildings and a dark sky rising behind it. There are Japanese characters in the upper right portion as well as the lower left.
