DescriptionThe image is an interior scene in which two youthful male figures, one standing behind a table and one to the left of the table perched on a stool, are working on boyhood inventions. The seated figure is whittling and has a whirligig-like contraption on the floor next to him. The standing figure works on a steam engine that powers a crane. Light comes in from two windows, draped with a shear fabric, behind the standing figure. The floor has a patterned carpet, a wooden chair appears at the far right, and a drop front desk sits in the shadow in the right corner of the room.
