Biographywas born in Richmond, Utah, but received his early education in Preston, Idaho. Moving on to Utah State University in the mid-1940s, he also attended Weber State College (WSU) before taking a B.A. at Brigham Young University while working as an Instructor of Art at Snow College, and then an M.F.A. at the University of Utah two years afterward. A pupil of both Glen Turner (q.v.) and George Dibble (q.v.) at BYU and the U of U respectively, this fine teacher and distinctive artist finally became department chair at USU in later years. Groutage was also an active exhibitor of work and the recipient of many awards in multiple media--handicrafts, printmaking, painting, drawing, and murals--to that present period. (b. April 21)
