Biographyson of (William) Ferrin Whitaker (q.v.), is a very talented classical-realist figure painter. He was a member of the Brigham Young University faculty from 1969 to about a decade later. Born in Chicago, Whitaker holds a B.A. from the University of Utah and has also studied at the Otis Art Institute. His subject matter often centers on Native American women, and he has been awarded the National Academy of Western Art¿s gold (1976) and silver (1977) medals; his work has been exhibited at the National Academy in Oklahoma City and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame over the years. He is best known as a "beauty" painter of sensitively arranged single or grouped figures of women. Today, he frequently concentrates on portraits of LDS Church officials and other important people.
