J. SCOTT

born 1907
BiographyScott, John (1907-), noted American illustrator, visited Salt Lake City in order to paint murals in oil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Scott worked in an essentially realistic style. As Ward Roylance wrote: "Deserving of special mention are the masterful murals in the North Visitors Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Strikingly forceful in thier depictions of episodes from sacred texts, these murals are viewed by throngs of visitors to the Mormon center. They are the work of several exceptionally gifted painters, among whom are Harry Anderson (q.v.), originator of a number of the Biblical scenes; Grant Romney Clawson (q.v.), who repainted and enlarged Anderson's originals; Kenneth Riley (q.v.); Alexander Rosenfeld (q.v.); and John Scott."
