DescriptionThe image is a landscape setting for a large group of Native American figures that begin in the lower left and fill the left middle ground; teepees can be seen behind. In the lower right a smaller group of figures, clothed in the contemporary dress of the mid-nineteenth century, face the Native American figures; the figure in front has his right arm raised in animation, in his left hand he holds a book.
