DescriptionThe image is a landscape setting of a train of covered wagons crossing a body of water in the middle ground from right to left and, after emerging onto land, extending into the distant just left of center. In the foreground three male figures, two standing and one sitting, hold axes and felled logs are scattered on the ground. On the left a split-rail fence zigzags from the foreground into the background; the sky looks heavy with rain and a bolt of lightning streaks down just left of center.
