ELIZABETH EASTMOND GOURLEY

1886 - 1961
BiographyA sister of artist E. H. Eastmond (q.v.), she specialized in flower paintings, particularly the blooms of Utah. Gourley was born in American Fork, Utah, and studied under Aretta Young (q.v.) at Brigham Young University. Graduating form the Brigham Young University School of Arts (1907), she went on to study china painting under F.B. Aulich and Antone Bishoff in addition to the brief pursuance of a teaching career in Provo at BYU (1908-12). Then, after the death of her brother in 1936, Gourley went back to school at the Art Center in Los Angeles. (b. March 18)
