DescriptionThe image is of two figures, one female and one male, standing side by side looking down into an open grave that contains an infant figure. The figures are dressed in the period wardrobe of the mid-nineteenth century, with the sense that a wind blows the fabric from left to right. The female figure is on the left and holds both her hands up near her face, the male figure is on the right with his right arm around the female and his left hand clutching a coat or blanket.
