DescriptionThe image depicts a lavish banquet with the figures clothed in Seventeenth Century European attire; the far side of the table is lined with figures, both male and female, both seated and standing, however the viewer side of the table has only three figures: a juvenile male figure, a female figure and a male figure. The juvenile figure looks out at the viewer and has a stick in his left hand and an animal on a leash in his right, the female figure, clothed in a red gown, is in profile facing right and holds in her right hand a platter bearing a human head while the left hand holds the lid that has revealed the offering, the male figure seated at the end of the table is in profile facing left and looks in horror at the offering while clutching the tablecloth with his left hand.On View
