DescriptionThe image is an illustration for the publication Harper's Weekly. The composition depicts eight separate scenes with the text written bellow. Seven of the scenes are smaller and border on the left, right and top edges of the middle and largest scene. The larges image in the center depicts two wagons being pulled by horses in the foreground, in the mid-ground there are several building structures of varying sizes, in the distant background is a mountainous landscape. The other seven images are more focused on the scenes associated with their titles listed beneath them from left to right: Assay Room U.S. Mint at Denver, Storm on the Plains, Pike's Peak, Preparing Supper, Emigrants Attacked by Indians, Fort Wicked, and Indian Massacre.
