DescriptionA body of water in the foreground is the setting for a group of figures, both male and female. Seated around the water, from left to right, is a male figure in stripped robe and headdress with his back to the viewer, an older male figure with a burden on his back and his feet in the water, a bare-chested male figure with his wrists shackled, and a female figure robed in purple with her hands clasped together under her chin. Standing behind the older male figure are standing figures, among them a male figure clad as a soldier grasping the arm of a female figure clothed in white. Behind the figures wooded foliage fills in the background and on the left harps seems to hang from trees. At the top of the trees a V-shaped opening exposes the cupola of a tower. Across the foreground of the painting are the words "They who had taken us captive required of us a song. PSA 137".
